Rita Walburn

Obituary of Rita Alice Walburn

Her Legacy… Rita Walburn, (92) born March 24, 1925 in Boston to Milton and Alice Placy went home to Jesus on August 20, 2017.  In 1944, Rita met a dashing sailor, Frank Walburn, while she was welding on his ship in Quincy, MA.  Love at first sight led to 61 years of blessed marriage until Frank’s passing in 2006.  Rita and Frank moved to Oroville in 1945 where she worked in the Butte County Clerk’s office.  Upon retiring, Rita took up sewing, quilting and traveling the world with Frank.  Rita delighted in becoming a “columnist” for the Oroville Mirror by submitting entertaining stories for her “Grandma Rita” column.  Grandma Rita was best known for her charming wit, mischievous dimpled smile and love of music, shopping and socializing.  She dearly loved spending time with family and friends, having parties and especially making new friends.  In one granddaughter’s words “I don’t think there’s a single person on earth who met Grandma Rita that didn’t fall in love with her.”

Her Family… Rita is survived by her sons and their wives, Richard and Sandy Walburn, Duane and Debbie Walburn and Marc and Martha Walburn; 7 grandchildren, Eric Walburn, Brent Walburn, Lexi Pittman, Tara Boyd, Tannis Walburn, Aaron Walburn and Alan Walburn; nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.  Much gratitude to Rita’s adopted family at Pacifica Concordia for your love and care.

Her Farewell Service… At Grandma Rita’s request, there will not be a service.  She said that we can honor her best by taking time to love one another. Arrangements are entrusted to Ramsey Funeral Home 530-534-3877.
