La Freeda Evelyn Thomas was born on January 1, 1951 in Philadelphia Pennsylvania to Joseph Tate Sr. and Evelyn Tate. La Freeda passed away on February 8. 2024 in Chico, CA. She was a dignitary in her own rights, guided by God who placed squarely in her hands the honor and responsibility of wife, mother, sister, and aunt. Beyond this, her ministry of health and healing stretched from practical nursing to ministry and leadership through clinical chaplaincy. She was a vessel through which God comforted, led, and healed. Her infectious smile, calming touch and demeanor, love of her family, and simple pleasures in flowers, books, and travel with her husband leaves us saddened but inspired.

La Freeda is survived by her husband Ronald of Chico, CA; her son Jason Thomas of Paradise, CA; and her daughter Angela Frazier of Bakersfield, CA; her grandsons Malachi Thomas of Chico, CA, Abiah Newton and Moses Newton of Bakersfield, CA; her brother Joseph Tate Jr. of Oak Hills CA; brother John Wilson of Corona, CA, and Sister Darla Kalke of Palm Springs, CA.; and is preceded in death by her brothers Jeffrey Tate, Charles Wilson and Andre Tate.

Her Funeral Service will be held Friday, February 23, 2024 at 10:30am at Chico Seventh Day Adventist Church 1877 Hooker Oak Ave., Chico, CA 95926
