Graveside Service
Obituary of Leland Jonathan Neva
Leland Jonathan Neva Sr., also known as “Lee,” was 33 years old when he passed away on November 7, 2023 in Oroville. He was born March 8, 1990 in Paradise, CA, and he would call Butte County his home for the rest of his life.
On October 26, 2023 Lee was riding his motorcycle on his way to his monthly American Legion Riders meeting near his home when he was struck by an SUV. He suffered severe complications. However, he fought hard through surgeries and rehabilitation to hold on long enough for his loved ones to have a chance to say goodbye. Anyone who knew Lee knew how magnetic and warm he was. His smile and his stories would keep everyone laughing for hours. If he called you his brother or sister, you knew you had someone in your corner that you could always count on.
Lee attended both Oroville and Las Plumas High Schools, and he graduated from OHS in 2008. He was an Army veteran, enlisting at eighteen years old and serving for five years with tours to Iraq and Afghanistan. After his service he moved back home and worked in the solar and construction industries. He loved motorcycles and went on to combine his passion for riding with his passion for service by founding and serving as president of the American Legion Riders Chapter 95. He became a pillar of our small community through his works. One of Lee’s greatest joys was being a father. He always wanted a big family and when he met his fiancé, Ashlee, they made that dream a reality. His children called their dad a superhero, and even as they got older, they still referred to him that way. He was always there for them through good and bad times. He taught them to make the most of every day.
Lee is survived by his parents, Dena and Jonathan Taylor of Berry Creek; his fiancé, Ashlee Peace of Oroville; children: Leland Neva, Jr., Gavin Allen, Leah Peace, Isla Neva, and Liam Neva; his brother, Nolan Neva of Plumas Lake; his sisters, Sierra Taylor of Berry Creek and Allison Taylor of Chico, and many more.
Friends may send memorial donations to his surviving family’s GoFundMe @ www.gofundme.com/f/leland-neva-and-family-support or contact his brother, Nolan Neva, for more information.
