I was Charles 1st cousin, I was fortunate enough to live with his family as my parents had to go to California for tuberculosis treatment.
Charles and I grew to be very close, best friends. We got into plenty of trouble, but he always managed to keep a smile. Our bond was unbreakable. The greatest blessing he gave me was his daughter Debbie. He could always make me laugh & now I have Debbie who can also make me laugh like Charles. He is in my heart & soul and I will love him forever.
I would ride in the truck with him, but he'd never let me drive, haha. I'm guessing it was memory of him trying to teach me to drive and I scared him half to death, that was the end of driving lessons.
Charles, I love you forever. Carolann

Q: What will you never forget about Charles?
A: Being on the truck with him when I was little. He hauled logs back then, he'd finish, we'd take the truck to the shop to work on for next day. I usually went home dirtier than he was.

Charles was my mother's nephew, the oldest child of her sister Faye, so 1st cousin to me. He was 9 days older than my own brother. They were both 16 years older than me so my memories of them are mostly as adults. Charles was always nice to me and I enjoyed his sense of humor so he was a favorite. I will always remember him fondly.

My favorite memories are of his super salty mashed potatoes, super sweet iced tea, and perfect pancakes. He had the corniest jokes and the funniest sayings. I love you Grandpa, thank you for the memories and enjoy heaven!

Charles and his sister used to also put little brother in a folding bed & leave him there.

Q: What 3 words best describe Charles and why?
A: Humble, kind and giving. Always ready to lend a helping hand.
He never knew a stranger, could speak to anyone & did.
"Bud" was also extremely charming, never passed a woman he knew without saying "hey good looking, how the hell are you?" Loved the Sprint Car races & watching the grandchildren get up to whatever they had going. He was very proud of them.
He enjoyed the grandchildren quite a bit, he & his second granddaughter were always giving each other guff, both gave as good as they got.
