Obituary of Theoplis Collier Columbus Dennis

His Legacy… Theoplis Collier Columbus “T.C.” Dennis, age 87 of Oroville, CA, passed away in his home on Monday, February 15, 2021. He was born April 14, 1933 in Overton, TX to Theoplis and Beatrice Dennis. He attended grammar school in Long Beach. His family moved to Oroville in June of 1947. He attended Oroville High School, graduating with the class of 1950. He also attended Yuba College in Marysville, CA for two years and began working, got married, and started his family. In 1964 he started working for California Water Service Company. He learned the duties of and worked at every position in the Oroville District. In 1988 he became the District Manager for the Oroville/Marysville districts. T.C. was a member of many organizations in our community, Oroville Elk Hooker Oak Lodge No.1197 for 69 years, serving as Exalted Ruler for over a total of 60 years. During this time, he also held high level leadership positions in regional, state, and national Elk Lodges. Oroville Rotary District 5190 as a member and a past President, Ben Ali Shriner, Oroville Mason Lodge 103 serving as a third degree Mason, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 196 earning his 15 year pin, and Century member for Boy Scouts of America. T.C.’s service for others also include numerous organizations and special activities, such as, serving on the Oroville Area General Plan Revision Committee, Oroville High School budget review committee, Oroville dollar for scholars, A.A.N.P.C. , Butte County Code Enforcement Advisory Committee, Butte Community Action Agency, Trustee of Oroville Hospital, Trustee of Oro Health Corporation. His Involvement in local political affairs is also extensive, Board of Directors for Lake Oroville Area Public Utility District for (40 yrs), Commissioner of Sewer Commission Oroville Region (35 yrs), Butte County Special Districts Association, Oroville Downtown Business Association Board, Director of the Oroville Area Chamber of Commerce. This breath of work and involvement might lead one to ask the question,”What does he do in his spare time?” He enjoyed being an active member of the Oroville Golden Feather Model “A” Club, bowling, fishing and spending time with his family and friends. His Family… T.C. was preceded in death by his parents and sister Lavera Jenkins. He is survived by his beautiful wife Esther Dennis of 40 years and Sister Innie Jenkins. He is also survived by his loving children; Evelyn Dennis, Janice (Everett) Hulett, Victor Dennis, LaTecia Dennis, Sharon (Larry) Williams, Christina Gabriel-Merman, Monique Gabriel, 10 Grandchildren, 5 Great Grandchildren, Cousins, numerous Nieces, Nephews and his best friend Rick Johns. His Farewell Service… A visitation will be held on Monday, February 22, 2021 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Ramsey Funeral Home, 1175 Robinson Street. Graveside service will be held on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at 1:00 PM at Memorial Park Cemetery, 5646 Lincoln Blvd. Oroville, California. Arrangements are entrusted to Ramsey Funeral Home 530-534-3877. Due to the Covid-19, there will be no gathering after the graveside service.
