I had the pleasure of seeing Al (Mr. McCoy) at Walgreens and Rite Aid very recently. Still the same friendly man he was when I graduated from Palermo School in 1971.
He was the head of our 8th Grade San Francisco trip. One thing that I will always remember, is the Opera we went to, Knickerbacker Holidays, starring Burt Lancaster. He got a small group, which I was honored to be part of, to go back stage to meet Burt Lancaster, see how he walked with a stump leg for his character in the opera, and get his autograph. It was something I will always remember.
Thank you to Al (Mr. McCoy) he will be missed.
My heart goes out to the family.
Sincerely, Lisa Beebe
Proud Graduate of Palermo School

My family lived next door to Edna and Jim Ammo.
In around 1973-74 Al brought our family a 7ft spruce Christmas tree. We couldn't afford a tree.
I sang in the choir at the Church of the Nazarene with Al and Laverne. Al loved to sing. He always had a smile on his face. I remember him in my Grandma's tree like close to 80 years old climbing that tree and trimming it. He was just amazing I have so many fond memories of Al and the people from Oro Naz
Linn and Bob Sweeney

It was recently I was telling my 7 year old grandson about my principal when I was in 7/8 grades. I told him every morning Mr. McCoy would walk the halls and greet every student with a smile and say, "top of the morning to ya!" I looked forward to that. He was a fine principal, a man of character and integrity.
To his family: May God comfort you during this time and sustain you with fond memories.

I will always remember Al, as one of the most kind and friendly people I have known. As a beginning teacher at Palermo, Al was welcoming, knowledgeable, and helpful and I greatly appreciated that!
His legacy of sharing his talents with us all and inspiring his family to follow in his footsteps, has made the Palermo schools much better places for learning and for making sure that each student is more than just another number.
I send my love and prayers to all of my McCoy friends and your families. Know that I will always remember Al"s warm smile and his wonderful laugh!
Love,
Carolyn Dawson

Big Al is a man I will always admire for his love of God, his gentle way, his caring attitude, his love for others, his generosity, and the list will never end.I worked for him for about eight years and he never had a negative thing to say.We prayed together, had a bible study together and Al was like a father to me.You will probably never find another man with the qualities that Al shared and taught others. He was an honest gentleman and a true child of God.I learned so much from Al and became a better man because of him.I know he is with his wife Laverne and in the presence of the man he loved more than life itself, Jesus Christ his friend and Savior.I will always be proud to call BIG Al McCoy a true friend.Rest in piece, love you, Ed Olive
