Obituary of Alvin Dale Davis Sr.

Alvin Dale Davis, Sr., 82, passed away peacefully at home, in his sleep, on Monday morning, October 7, 2019 in Gridley California. He was born at home in Chico California on November 22, 1936 to William and Viola Davis. Alvin married Geraldine Davis in Chico, celebrating 53 years of marriage until her passing in 2010.

Alvin attended various schools in the Chico area, held various jobs and worked for many years at Schifflet Brothers until he opened the Gridley Home Center with his wife, his brother William (Bill) Davis and wife Marlene. He retired from the Home Center, was an astute businessman and pursued other ventures to include acquiring and maintaining both commercial and residential properties until his passing.

Alvin was devoted to his family, worked diligently to provide for them, enjoyed attending Family Reunions for past 50+ years, loved to fish and was a member of the Lions Club of Gridley.

Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, wife Geraldine, brother William, sisters Lillian (Davis) Hall and Lois (Davis) Heigh.

Alvin is survived by his daughters Loretta Arnold and husband Ellis, and Catherine Davis Hammons, both of Arizona, son Alvin Dale Davis, Jr. and wife Jane of Gridley, sister Doris Wilson of Chico, sister-in-law Marlene Smith of Gridley, cousin Hazel McClaskey and husband Don of Chico California, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Visitation for Alvin will be held from 5-8pm on October 17, 2019 at Gridley-Block Funeral Chapel, 679 Ohio Street, Gridley. Funeral services will be held at Gridley-Block Funeral Chapel, at 1PM October 18, 2019. His nephew, Mr. Roy Lemos, will officiate the services followed by interment with his wife, Geraldine, at the Gridley Biggs Cemetery, 2023 CA-99, Gridley. A reception will be held after graveside services at the North Butte Masonic Lodge #230, 1200 Sycamore Street, Gridley. Arrangements entrusted to Gridley-Block Funeral Chapel, 530-846-2138.
