Mr. Christiansen's legacy directly impacts my family daily. Our two sons participate in band, one at OHS. Early every morning, they hurry out the door anxious to attend band and every evening our neigborhood is treated to the gloriuos sound of students practicing. Thank-you, Sir. Your giant shoes we are left to fill, meagerly in comparison.

Condolences to family and friends! Jim had deep love for the State Theatre and advocated its improvement, he consistently discussed with me and reminded me as elected Council member that we must find a better way. Well it seems fitting that the new marque has Jim Christensen on it today informing all of the service in the State Theatre. It was a wonderful service with Band performance and so many loving remarks from family!

What a wonderful photo of Jim posted here! This is the man--open, good-natured, friendly. This is the man I knew and now can only regret not knowing better.

I'm sadden by Mr. C's passing. He was my choir and jazz choir teacher at OHS. He was a kind man, with a contagious love of music, that he shared with all of his students. He cared for his community, friends and family and never seemed to forget a face or a name. Even some 30 years after graduation.
He will be missed but never forgotten.
My deepest sympathy's to his family and may you find peace in the wonderful memories you have.

I will never forget a concert we gave during my junior year in 1974. We performed No Ones Perfect featuring Steve Calloway as the soloist. It was great fun and a hit. We also had musical guests from an out of town high school whose performance was exceptional. One of their students sang If I Were A Rich Man from Fiddler On The Roof that just blew us away!! He loved a song our band played at every game. The name escapes me. He asked Mr C to have the band play that song repeatedly, and in the fun, youthful spirit that was Mr. C, he happily obliged.
Mr. C was a great influence in my love for music. Singing in choir was first introduced to me by Willa Stevens- Hills, and nurtured by Mr. C.
I extend my sincere condolences to the family, friends and the Oroville Community. His spirit and love for music is permanently embedded in our hearts. Rest well, Mr C. Thank you for the music.

I was a student of Mr C from 1969 to 1973. We were his first full four year group of students and always claimed him for ourselves. He was so influential in my life, patient and understanding. He gave us a love of music in many genres and when we graduated we considered him family. One of our classmates, Jim Cox, even wrote a song for him and we sang it to him: “Mr C. There will never be another Mr C”
And there never will be. May he now Rest In Peace.

Dear Ada, As I'm sure you're aware of, Jim had a lasting impression on literally thousands of his students. His passing got me to reminiscing about my times with Jim and reflecting on just exactly what was it about this special man that so endeared him to so very many students. For myself it was easy to know why. Jim became a friend to me and even though we drifted apart and didn't see each other sometimes for year, we would catch right up when we did see each other again. As a teacher, he brought out my singing ability and taught me how to use my voice garnering praise from others over the years for something I didn't even know I had in the beginning.Choir traditionally has a bit of a stigma about it for young men but at OHS, nothing could be farther from the truth and Jim was the reason why. There were four or five teachers at OHS who were beloved by all the students and their classes were "cool" no matter what the class. Jim as the music teacher, Ron Loch and the Drama/English teacher , Mr. Young as the public speaking teacher and Mr. Hughes and Molly Montgomery as the French teachers. They all shared a common thread, they treated us as friends and with respect. And we loved them for it and learned more from them because of it. Jim and I had a mutual love of jazz and it brought us closer together as we often discussed various jazz artists in his office during my free periods, turning each other on to different people. We continued this past high school talking over a drink or two at the Village Inn (Prospectors).I never would have believed someone could get me to listen to opera but Jim did and taught me respect for the form at least if not a fan of the music. Not many men in this country can claim the legacy and and lasting impact that Jim had on thousands of students and it will live on forever through the generations because of the love for an exceptional teacher that touched us all. the last time I saw Jim was in 2011 at a community concert in The State Theatre. after the concert we shared a warm hug and talked for about an hour, just him, myself, Glennis Roseberry, Monte Gregg and Becky Graves talked old times , new times and life in general. It is a warm memory that I will cherish forever.

Ada I was so sorry to hear of James passing. We worked together for several years hosting Oroville Adult School graduation ceremonies. He was always very gracious offering his help yearly. It was always a pleasure to hear the band as they would graciously perform. Sending you and your family deepest sympathy.
