We came to Oroville also in 1988. We needed a Doctor and Dr. Bowen was recommended by a nurse who was a neighbor. It is hard to believe so much time has passed. We are thankful for all the years of having Dr. Bowen as our Doctor. Thinking back, I remember many years of various conversations . My last visit we exchanged conversation about our grandchildren.
Our condolences to all of you.

I moved to Oroville from the Bay Area in 1990. I found Dr. Bowen's name in the phone book and there started 25 years of wonderful medical service from a wonderful, caring, man. I had a Publishing business, "I and L Publishing". He always was interested in the books I had published, and I was happy to give him several books he said he enjoyed reading.
I just found out on the 21st he had passed away, or I would have been at his service. I will miss him a lot. The entire community will miss him and his smile. God Bless all of his family and may you have comfort in knowing he was loved by his clients. I will never be able to replace him as my personal Doctor.
God Bless you all,
Iola Moore and Family

It was my great privilege to work with Randy at Oroville Internal Medicine. He was a dedicated, conscientious physician, a wonderful teacher always willing to explain medical principles to me, and he had a great sense of humor. I considered it my duty to prank him every April 1st. Even though he expected a prank, most years he fell for them and we always had a good laugh afterwards. My absolute favorite prank was after Aaron was born. I had a friend that worked in the lab and persuaded her to give me a blank pregnancy test result form. I filled the form out with Ruthie's name and information, checked the box positive, and slipped the report in with his routine lab work and waited for him to find it. It was mid afternoon when I heard a startled gasp from his office. I got up to look into his office and he was frozen in his chair staring wide eyed at the blue positive pregnancy test in his hand. When he could talk, he asked if I had seen the test result, and I admitted to him it was an April 1st joke. He laughed, and then immediately called Ruthie and said "Guess what I have in my hand? It is a positive pregnancy test with your name on it!" He couldn't wait to share the joke with Ruthie. We all laughed about it, but in the back of my mind, I sensed that he was sad it wasn't real. He loved his children and family more than anything and would have welcomed another child, although not at the risk of losing Ruthie. My heart goes out to all of you at this time. Know that he loved you all and his passing is a loss to not just to you but to the community as well. God be with you all and help you find peace.

He was a brilliant and kind man, he walked a difficult path over the last few years and he did it with grace. I only started to know him lately, but I know his absence will be so painful to my new friend Ruthie and to our new nephew Josh. My father passed in March but his passing was so much easier to accept. I pray that quickly the pain subsides and only the love and his huge impact on this earth will remain.

Dr Bowen and I practiced together at Oroville Hospital for many, many years.I have known him since first arriving to practice at Oroville Hospital as a RN in the ER in 1990.Dr Bowen was a fine, intelligent kind and compassionate physician. His patients and staff all loved him. He will be missed very much. Dr Bowen was my supervisor briefly when I was working as a mid level at Internal Medicine. Dr Bowen was never too busy to answer a question for me or help me with my decisions regarding patient care. He was truly a wonderful man, doctor of medicine and friend. My condolences to ALL of Dr. Bowen's family. He will be missed by many. Because of Dr. Bowen I am still walking this earth. This last July I made an appointment with him because I was having difficulties swimming, something I have done on a regular basis for ten years now. My appointment was July 22nd. Dr. Bowen checked me out that afternoon, could not find anything wrong, but sent me over to the hospital and had and x-ray and C2 scan done to see if maybe I had a blood clot in my lungs. After the procedures were done I drove home. About 30 minuets after getting home I got a call from Dr. Bowen and the hospital telling me to have someone drive me back to the hospital, they had a room waiting for me. Three days later, at Sutter Memorial Hospital in Sacramento, Dr. Kincade was removing a 5.5 cm tumor from the left atrium of my heart. AS soon as I could talk on a phone again, I called Dr. Bowen (at his house where he had made the call to my cell phone) and thanked him for having those processes done that saved my life. I was fortunate enough to have seen him and talked to him two more times prior to his retirement. I was so sad to lose him as my Doctor and now even sadden more by the passing of a man that should have had more life to enjoy with those he loved so much.
I know you can see or hear this Dr. Bowen, THANK YOU AGAIN for the 30 years I knew you and that final gift of LIFE YOU GAVE ME!
In loving memory, your friends Jim and Barbara Ott
PS, I would be at your services, but have to attend my very loved dear Uncle Frank's (Pearl Harbor Survivor) memorial in Dixon on the same day. He passed two days before the Pearl Harbor Memorial this year Age 98

We are deeply saddened to hear of Dr. Bowens passing. We moved here to Oroville over thirteen years ago. We knew no one here at that time. Shortly there after Jim became very ill. He randomly picked Dr Bowen from the phone book and made an appointment. He got worse before the scheduled appointment and was brought to the emergency room at Oroville hospital. It just so happened that Dr Bowen was on duty and walked into our room. He was like a knight in shining armor. He took right over treating Jim. He immediately calmed us down, stabilized Jim's condition, diagnosed his problem and sent him home a few days later. He has been our Doctor ever since. He was "our Doctor" but much more than that as well. We thought of him as our friend. He had such a kind, caring and gentle way about him we always felt we were visiting a dear friend. He took a deep interest in us, never made us feel rushed and did everything in his power to help us. He cared about us and took interest in us as a person, not just a patient. His knowledge and insight was amazing. He seemed to know so much it fascinated us. We could ask him questions about any health issues and he was able to guide us through them. His passing forces us to seek out another doctor but our hearts will always remain with our Doctor and friend Dr. Bowen. We will never forget him. We loved him dearly and will miss him very much. We feel blessed to have known him. Good by dear friend.

Our heartfelt condolences to Ruthie and the Kids.
Randy will be missed, his wonderful smile and gentle spirit will always remain in our hearts. He was always ready to give of himself to those who needed a word of encouragement and to help those who were hurting. His passion in life aside from his relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ was to bring comfort to those who needed a helping hand but most of all his love for his family and friends.
Ps 121
I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord who made heaven and earth. He will not let your foot be moved, for he who keeps you will not slumber, he neither slumbers nor sleep, behold He who guards Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord is your keeper, He's Thy shade upon thy right hand, the sun shall not smite thee by day nor the moon by night. He will keep you from evil, He will guard your soul, the Lord will watch all your going out and thy coming in from this time forth and even for evermore.

I saw Dr Bowen for 20 some odd years. He was one of those doctors who actually cared and took time to talk to you and find out what was going on. He wasn't one of those doctors who was standing halfway out the door talking to you. I went to him long enough that I think we actually had a friendship. He told me things about his children and I shared things about my own. I knew he had some health issues but I did not know they were so immediately life threatening. I can't say how sad I am to think that I will no longer see him. He will be surely missed. I pray that someone, somewhere, will fill the void he left someday.

I had the honor of working under Dr. Bowen at Oroville Internal Medicine. He was absolutely the kindest most generous man I've had the pleasure of working with.
Loved equally by patients and staff, his services were valued so highly we routinely had to schedule 5-6 patients an hour, per his request. He rarely took a real lunch and always made extra time listen to his patient's words.
All doctors are special, but the world is losing one of the very good ones.

My father truly was a great man in every sense of the word! His impact on my life and the lives of my family cannot be measured! This world has lost an amazing soul and a brilliant mind who's equal I have yet to meet nor do I expect I ever will! Every success I have found in life is a credit to my father. The values he instilled in us with a firm hand and humble heart has been the compass that's pulled me from mud time after time.
No matter the mistakes me and my brothers made he was always there leading by his example of what a man is.
I can only hope to be half the man, half the father, half the husband my dad was to our family.
Words simply can't describe the love I have for my father or how much I will continue to miss him each and every day!
Rest in peace Dad until we meet again!

Randy was my best doctor and Sunday School teacher. Oh, Ruthie, hugs and prayers. All the boys grew up so well! Ryan's tribute is proof. Dr. B. has fulfilled his calling with a very lasting power in all of our lives.
Dr. B. once found that it was a pre-ulcer condition. He educated me that ulcers can be viral. He then asked, "Are you comfortable with my diagnosis?" He is so gracious.
Much Love,
