Obituary of Stanley Joseph Huston
Stanley Joseph Huston was born September 9, 1939 in a small home on Sierra Ave. in Thermalito, CA. He went to be with his Lord and Savior on December 2, 2015. In 1962 he built his family home in Thermalito less than 1 mile from his birthplace. He lived in that home for the remainder of his life.
Stan attended Oroville High School where he played basketball for Coach Duard Millet and was on several championship teams. He was captain of the varsity team and was awarded All Sierra Foothill League honors his senior year. He graduated from the class of 1957.
After high school he went to work for the Operating Engineers Local 3 working on various construction projects throughout Northern California. He later went to work for Butte County Public Works in the Paint and Sign department. He retired from Butte County as the foreman of Traffic Control (R-8).
He dedicated his life to family and to the youth of the greater Oroville area. Early in his life he served as the Sunday School Superintendant at First Assembly of God church. During that time he drove the Sunday school bus and later served as the Youth Director. He coached the Thermalito Cardinals Little League team for 17 years. He also coached many TOC and All Star teams during that time.
He served his community in many ways. He served on the church board and Thermalito Little League board for many years. He served for 12 years on the Thermalito Union School District Board and 16 years on the Thermalito Water and Sewer Board. During his tenure on the school board he was instrumental in the construction of the new gymnasium at the Nelson Ave. Middle School. He took the first free throw shot at the dedication of that new facility.
Hobbies include gardening, restoring old cars and sports of all kinds. He was known for his summer tomatoes and red onions. He enjoyed having friendly competition with neighbors and friends to see who could raise the biggest tomato or onion. Quite often he won that award.
Stan had a saying. “Give it all you got every chance you got to give it all you got”. Quite simply it meant to give it your very best and always give 100% at whatever you do in life.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years Mary Ann. Children Rick (Lisa), Pam (Mark) and Kenny (Kathy). Grandchildren include Mary, Melissa & Jason (twins) and Becky & Stanley (twins). Siblings include Harold, Barbara, Mary, Darrell and sister in law Arlene. He has several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father George and mother Frances and brother Bill and brother-in-law Lewis Murrish. He will be missed by all of those who loved him so much.
Services will be held on Monday December 7, 2015 at 11am at the First Assembly of God church located at 3210 Oro Dam Blvd. East Oroville, CA.
