Obituary of Howard Mapes Ferguson

His Legacy…Howard Mapes Ferguson (Papa) passed away Sunday, February 24, 2019.  Born in Quincy California on August 5, 1947 to James Carlton and Myrta Ferguson, he was raised with his sister Kathy and brother Jim.  He graduated from Quincy High School in 1965 and went on to earn a teaching degree from Chico State University.  He taught Special Education at Central Middle School for 36 years and ran many additional programs including the Peer Tutor and Grandparent Program. He loved to shop online keeping his loved ones supplied with what he thought they needed.  He married his wife DeAnna in 1972 and raised four children.  After retiring from teaching he served as a Butte County Office of Education board member and a CalSTRS retirement counselor. 

His Family…He is survived by his wife DeAnna, children Rick Medford (Shelly), Tony Medford, Lisa Huston (Rick) and Shelley Diane; grandchildren Briana, Melissa, Jason, Erin, Denton, Hunter and Reece; and great grandchildren Tristan, Liam and Ariadne; and sister-in-law Harriet and nephew Rob. 

His Farewell Service… A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, March 24, 2019 at 1:00 PM at the Huston home, 31 Walnut Ave. Oroville, Califonria.  Happy Shopping Papa. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are entrusted to Ramsey Funeral Home 530-534-3877.
