Obituary of Barbara Lee Ahlberg

Her Legacy… Barbara Bennet Ahlberg, born December 22, 1927 in Los Angeles, CA, passed quietly at home in the company of her daughter on Thursday, January 18, 2018. Barbara grew up in Los Angeles and had many fond memories of a bustling home, snuggles on her grandmother’s soft lap, and summer visits to the cabin. Married to Laurie Urho Ahlberg on January 26, 1947, Barbara was a loving wife until Laurie’s passing in 1992. Barbara and Laurie moved often with his job as an airline mechanic, but with each move she always found a way to fit into the new community. Together they raised their children Steven and Jan, and were proud grandparents of Justin, Jessamyn, and Matthew. In addition to wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother; Barbara is also remembered for her animal husbandry in her younger years, as an avid gardener, seamstress, Sunday School teacher, choir member, PTA member, painter of landscapes and animals, and self-published author and illustrator of children’s books for her great-grandchildren. Barbara is also fondly remembered as the family genealogist and keeper of the family narrative. Barbara opened her home to friends and family in need often during her life, was a member of Redwood Chapel Community Church in Castro Valley, and practiced Christian values throughout life.

 

Her Family… Barbara is survived by her daughter, Jan Sykes; her grandchildren, Justin Sykes, Jessamyn Carino and Matthew Ahlberg; and her great-grandsons, Deyson Carino, Jeran Sykes, and Gabriel Carino. She was preceeded in death by her husband Laurie Ahlberg, her son Steven Ahlberg, and her sister Lorie Griswold.

 

Her Farewell Service… Barbara will be laid to rest next to her husband on Friday, January 26. 2018, 1:30pm at Chapel of the Chimes, Garden of Honor, 32992 Mission Blvd., Hayward, CA  94554. There will be a family luncheon after at Redwood Community Church, 19300 Redwood Rd, Castro Valley, CA 94546. Ramsey Funeral Home 530-534-3877.
