Douglas French

Obituary of Douglas Allen French

His Legacy… Doug French was born July 22, 1936 in Yakima, Washington to Gilbert and Sally French. He passed from this life into eternity on August 26, 2017, joining his wife Yvonne who preceded him by 2 months. In the interim was a life he considered quite ordinary, but one admired by his family as a life lived in devotion to Christ, his family, and his fellow man. Doug grew up in places too numerous to mention, but landed for a time in College Park, MD, where he met and married his one and only sweetheart and wife of 62 years, Yvonne. They made their home in Oroville, where they raised 3 daughters and were enthusiastically involved in the Nazarene Church. Doug spent 33 years in the Public Works Dept. for the City of Oroville, retiring in 1996 as the supervisor for the division of streets. He took great pride in his work and always displayed a strong work ethic. In 1996 Doug and Yvonne retired into a life of new adventures. His retirement was marked by extensive travel both in the states and around the world, and with sailing, golfing, and RVing with friends. Doug was a devoted grandpa, and not only provided fun outings and trips with the grandchildren, but also provided a warm and loving home where the grandchildren could feel welcome anytime. Among his most proudest and cherished memories is officiating at the weddings of 6 of his grandchildren. Although he ‘only’ achieved a high school education, Doug was a lifelong learner and kept an extensive library. He valued education and applauded that in his family. He also spent countless hours in serving humanity. Among the beneficiaries of his service are the Nazarene Compassionate Ministries, Work and Witness Teams, Habitat for Humanity, and the Father’s House. He loved teaching Sunday School and led a small-group Bible Study at his home for many years. He also was a faithful attender at Friday “Geezer Luncheon”.

His Family… Doug was preceded in death by his parents, and by his wife Yvonne. He leaves behind a family so appreciative of his steady guidance and loving example: daughters Debi (Cash) Colby, Dora (Lawrence) Paul, and Susie (David) Conner. His grandchildren are Jordan (Greer), Grayson (Becca), Natalie, Emily (Bobbi), Chuck (Carleigh), Katie (Ryan) and Grant (Courtney). He had 6 great grandchildren. His sister, Billie Nelson and numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews also survive him.

His Farewell Service…A Memorial Service in his honor is set for Thursday, August 31, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the Oroville Nazarene Church, 2238 Monte Vista Ave. with luncheon to follow. Arrangements are entrusted to Ramsey Funeral Home, 530-534-3877.
