Obituary of John Arthur Angelo

A memorial service will be held on Saturday August 19, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Gridley for John A. Angelo, 90 of Gridley. He passed away Saturday August 12, 2017 in Gridley, CA.

John was born July 16, 1927 in McCrory, AR, one of two children born to John and Lena Angelo. He was a longtime resident of Gridley, having retired after 31 years of service from the U.S. Postal Service where he was the Postmaster in Corning, CA. He enjoyed spending time at the family’s cabin in Oregon, where he camped and collected agates on the beach. He also enjoyed making birdhouses, and was very computer savvy. He was heavily involved in community service, where he was very active in scouting, serving on the Corning District School Board and the Tehama County Grand Jury and was active in writing letters to the local newspaper editors.  He served in the U.S. Navy during the end of WWII and the beginning of the Korean War. He was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church and easily made friends everywhere he went.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Mary Reinier.

He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Lois Angelo of Gridley, one son, Chuck (Ginger) Angelo of Gridley, two daughters; Carol (John) Bennett of Glendora, CA, Jane (John) Cronin of Rio Vista, CA, four grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held Thursday August 17, 2017 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Gridley-Block Funeral Chapel. A graveside service will be held on Friday August 18, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the Sunset Hills Cemetery in Corning, CA. The family suggests contributions be made to the United Methodist Church or a charity of choice. Arrangements entrusted to Gridley-Block Funeral Chapel 530-846-2138.
