Obituary of Gilbert Harding Bowles
His Legacy… Gilbert Harding Bowles was born March 5, 1938 in Oroville, California to Herb and Ellen Bowles. Gil passed away on July 9, 2017 in Oroville, California. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, having served in many positions. Through his life he was active in many organizations. He was a member in the Boy Scouts of America, later serving as a Scout Leader. He played on a championship football team at Oroville High School and qualified at the state level in track and field. He later coached Pop-Warner Football. He is a past president of Oroville Noon Rotary. Other than his family and church, his passions in life included auto restoration which included a 1911 Metz. He liked gardening, reading, camping, fishing and crabbing on the coast. He enjoyed spending time with family and keeping up with grandchildren on Facebook; he excelled at telling a “Good” Joke and serving others.
His Family… Gil is survived by his wife of 56 years Kay Bowles, his daughter Belinda (Dennis) Cooley of Oroville and his son David (Laurie) Bowles of Chico, his former daughter-in-law Janae Harris of St. George, Utah, 13 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, his son Douglas Bowles and two sisters Dorothy Woods and Barbara Miner.
His Farewell Service… A Viewing will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at 10:00 AM with Funeral Service to follow at 11:00 AM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 2390 Monte Vista Ave. Oroville, California. Arrangements are entrusted to Ramsey Funeral Home 530-534-3877.
