Obituary of Susan May Kiely
Her Legacy....Susan May (Demes) Kiely, a loving woman, wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, left us Wednesday, June 7, 2017. Words cannot express the void this happy, loving and kind person has left in our lives and hearts. She is now at peace and smiling that beautiful smile upon all of us. Born, October 23, 1939 to Raymond and Sydney Demes in Biggs/Gridley, California, Susan attended grammar and high school in Biggs and was known as an exceptional student. Susan earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with honors from CSU, Chico and later earned her teaching credential. Susan married her high school sweetheart and best friend John "Jack" Kiely. Together, they made several moves throughout Jack's career with PG& E living in Orland, Ukiah, Petaluma, Willits and Lemoore before retiring to Kelly Ridge in Oroville in 1995. Susan made each move with optimistic and made friends and got involved in every community they resided. Susan's greatest joy and legacy will be the family she created and raised. Son Tim Kiely and daughter Shannon ( Kiely) Larrabee went on to marry and add grandchildren and great grandchildren to Susan's world. Susan will be remembered for her thoughtfulness, kindness, hospitality, compassion and inclusiveness. She loved professional tennis, was an avid reader, a member of Oroville Happy Bookers Book Club, enjoyed a good game of bunko or pinochle with friends , enjoyed traveling with her husband and was a lover of people and animals.
Her Family-..Susan is survived by her husband of 57 years, John " Jack " Kiely, son Tim Kiely ( Donna), daughter Shannon Larrabee (Michael), granddaughter Lindsay Schapmire ( Tyler) , grandson Tom Kiely, great grandchildren Abe and Nora Schapmire, brother Richard Demes ( Jean), brother Russell Demes ( Jo Ellen) and numerous cousins, nephew and nieces.
Her Farewell Service -..A celebration of life will be held Saturday, June 17, 2017, at 11 am at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church, 410 Jackson St. Gridley, CA. A reception will follow at St. Timothy's. The family gratefully requests donations to Paws of Oroville, 3557 Oro Dam Blvd. E, Oroville, CA 95966
