Jennifer, my beautiful cousin, mother of four amazing children. I am devastated, my heart is crushed. It's hard to write through the tears. It is unbelievable you are gone, and it hurts to not be able to hear your voice, or read your posts on facebook, or plan for the next time I can see you and your children. But I am blessed to have been your cousin in this life and to have memories of the incredibly good times we had, starting with your baptism in 1969 at St Paul's Episcopal Church in Benicia. Then there was the time in the Benicia City swimming pool in 1976 when your mom asked me to go play with you so that you weren't alone in the pool. I didn't want to, but am glad I did. You laughed and laughed as I tossed you out of the pool about a hundred times (I was worn out after that!). Then the time in Long's Drugs when you snuck up behind me and squirt cheap perfume in my nose (You're a dog!). I have the memory of all the July 4th's, the summers at our Grandmother's, the visits to your house in Tracy, my very first Major League Baseball game with you and your dad, and going to Great America. Exploring in Uncle Eddie's back yard, your dad having fun with fireworks in Eddie's front yard, the Peddler's Fair, eucalyptus leaves and pine needle tea! Going to the zoo. Driving highway 4. So many memories. But there is more.
You gave so much of yourself to the community. You learned the importance of volunteering for community service as a member of the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls. The lessons you learned as a Rainbow Girl stayed with you into your adult life. You volunteered to raise money to help improve people's lives when you had little money of your own. You helped raise money for hospitals, sometimes at the expense of your own health. You were dripping with sweat selling fireworks at a stand in 100+ degree temperatures, and was overcome by the heat. You were a Navy Wives Ombudsman while your husband served in the US military. The US Navy describes the mission of the Navy Wives Ombudsman as someone who provides support to families on a range of issues, including information from the command – especially during deployments, to advice on family issues, or even where to get the best deals on household needs in town. Ombudsman keep service members and families informed and help promote healthy, self-reliant Navy families. You did this during your own husband's deployments while caring for your own family.
Above all, the most important thing to you was family and your children. You did the best you could raising four children with what little you had. You named your youngest son after me, and your youngest daughter after my sister! How amazing it is to do that!
So I sit here very sad, wondering how to live without you in this world. At this point, all I can do is say how fortunate and lucky I am to have had you in my life. I am proud to have had you as my cousin. I hope we can meet again one day, and will always love you.
