Obituary of Bessie Irene Sample

Bessie Irene Davis Sample, 98, passed away May 4, 2017 at home with her daughter, in Sutter, California.

Irene was born in Fort Cobb, Oklahoma on March 30, 1919. She married the love of her life, Durwood Sample, in October of 1937 and shortly thereafter they moved to Gridley, California. She retired from Gridley Cannery and enjoyed her homemaking years on the McConnell ranch. She also took pleasure in quilting, canning, gardening, and enjoyed worship and fellowship by her husband Durwood’s side for many years, at the Gridley Assembly of God.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents , husband, two brothers and three sisters.

She is survived by her daughter, Bess Roush (Harold); son, John (Gale) Sample; sister, Myrtle Price; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces.

Irene is loved and will be missed by her family and friends.

A Graveside Service is scheduled for Wednesday, May 10, 2017, at 1 p.m., and a Celebration of Life will be held at the Christian Life Assembly on Humble Avenue in Gridley on Saturday, May 13, 2017, at 11 a.m. Family and friends are welcome.
