Douglas Jacobsen

Obituary of Douglas R Jacobsen

Douglas Reid “Doug” Jacobsen, 73 years old, passed away on March 10, 2017, after a long illness. Doug was born in San Francisco, CA, the only child of Douglas Reid Jacobsen Sr., and Mollie Palmer. He graduated from Modesto Junior College, with an AA degree in Police Science. He also graduated from California State University Chico, with a Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration. Doug had an interesting work history. He started as a ranch-hand on the Jacobsen family peach and almond orchards, while also attending college. His first full-time job was as a Manteca City Police Officer. Later, he accepted a job working for the State of California as a Park Attendant at Squaw Valley Ski Resort, then at the Governor’s mansion in Sacramento, CA. He was soon offered a position as a California State Parks Ranger at San Clemente State Park, receiving a follow-on assignment to Cuyamaca Rancho State Park. In 1972, Doug was offered a promotion and a Ranger assignment to Lake Oroville State Recreation Area. While at that assignment, he filled many positions, including that of Supervising Ranger. Some interesting facts about Doug, include that he ran the Olympic torch flame through Livingston, CA, prior to the opening ceremonies at the 1960 Squaw Valley Winter Olympics. He also helped nurse an injured Red-Tailed Hawk back to health, when he was Ranger at Cuyamaca Rancho State Park. Doug played the guitar, and was a truly gifted handy-man, including drawing up the plans for two home garages, and then building them. Doug found great joy in camping, fishing, hunting, and just sitting and talking with friends and family over coffee. He loved family holidays and get-togethers. Doug is survived by his wife of 26 years, Joan, and his children, Robynn (Greg), Timothy, and step-children Linda (Michael), Barbara (Greg), and Chris (Kari), 12 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Ducks Unlimited. A memorial service will be held at the Foothill Church of Christ, 2295, Foothill Blvd, Oroville, on March 18, 2017 at 1:00 pm. Reception to follow. Arrangements are entrusted to Ramsey Funeral Home 530-534-3877.
