Obituary of Lozata Marie Tull

Lozata Marie Tull Lozata also known as Marie, Mom, Nana was born on October 31, 1930 in Arlie, Texas. In 1943 she came to Gridley, California with her father Marshal Upton, her mother Josie, her sister Maxine, and her brother Ray. They traveled to California on a troop transport train. Maxine (Mac), Marie and Ray all graduated from Gridley High School. Maxine married soon after graduation and moved to Humbolt County and soon had six children: Jim, Charles, Hershal, Donna, Sherry and Wade. Marie also married and had nine children: A.J., Trudy, Tom, Debra, Sonny, Laura, Rita, Freda, and Marshall. Marie trained and worked as a Nurse at then Gridley Memorial Hospital. She later worked for 35 years at the cannery in Gridley where she made many friends. Marie was always totally committed to her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and bingo. She was very proud of her brand new bright red Thunderbird she won playing Bingo in Colusa. Marie was an extremely strong woman and tried to pass that trait to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Marie never seemed to have less than a dozen children at every meal and somehow with what seemed like very little she created amazing feasts for everyone. Her house was always home for her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and any other child who happened to stop by. Many of those children considered Marie as Mom and there was no one better at it than Marie. Marie passed away on January 22, 2017 in Oroville California in the presence of her children. Marie was a force of nature that will be missed by all who ever met her. A Farewell Funeral will take place at Gridley-Biggs Cemetery in Gridley California on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. All who knew Marie are invited to attend. Arrangements are entrusted to Oroville Funeral Home (530) 533-0323.
