Obituary of Doris Marjorie Solis
Doris Marjorie Solis, 98, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on January 13, 2025, in San Luis Obispo, California.
Doris was born on July 1, 1926, to John and June Geddis in Hanes, North Dakota. A talented athlete, she shone as a star player on her high school basketball team. After graduating, Doris ventured to the bustling city of San Francisco, California, where she began her career with Western Union. It was there she met the love of her life, Iris Garcia Solis. The two were married on April 19, 1957, and shared 61 wonderful years together until Iris's passing on December 25, 2018.
In 1978, Doris and Iris relocated to Oroville, California, where they fulfilled a shared dream by opening Lake Oroville Ace Hardware, a lumber yard and building supply store. As proud owners, they successfully ran the business for 32 years, becoming well-known and respected members of the community.
Doris had a vibrant, fun-loving personality. She was courageous, inspirational, Christ-loving, kind, funny, and full of joy—a true firecracker who demonstrated what could be achieved with determination and persistence. She lived her life to the fullest, cherishing her roles as a devoted wife, loving mother, and adoring grandmother.
Doris is survived by her children, Dennis Solis; Diana and Douglas Lawson; and Marc and Julie Solis. She is lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, Christian Solis; Isabella and Noah Thinger; Nathan Solis; Nicholas and Rachel Lawson; Clayton and Sarah Lawson; Tyler and Caitlin Lawson; and Zachary Lawson; and her great-grandchildren, Owen, Lainey, and Winter Lawson. Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Iris Garcia Solis; her brother, Vern Geddis; and her sisters, Bernice Steel and Clair Geddis.
A celebration of Doris’s life will be held on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at 10 a.m. at Ramsey Funeral Home in Oroville, California. A graveside service will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery in Oroville. Doris’s legacy of love, joy, and unwavering faith will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
