Bobby Jack “Jack” Bequette passed away on December 12, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
Jack was born on November 7, 1930, in Lowell Arkansas, a small town in the Ozarks. He spoke often of his childhood, where his family farmed with horses and mules. His mother and father passed away when he was a child, so he followed relatives to Gridley, where he enrolled at Gridley High School. When his caretakers decided to move when Jack was a sophomore, he decided to get a job and stay in Gridley. Having no family of his own, he embraced the community and made it his home for the rest of his life.
Jack married his high school sweetheart, Dorothy May Cassady, and their marriage was blessed with five children. Following her tragic death, he married Diane Linn, who survives him. Jack and Diane were happily married for sixty years and added two children to the family.
Jack was known for his friendly nature and sense of humor. He embraced the diverse ethnicities that moved to the valley and learned some Spanish and Punjabi phrases to communicate with his friends. Later in life, he delighted in surprising his doctors and nurses with greetings in their native languages.
Jack is survived by his wife, Diane, and children John (Linda), Darlene (Jeff), Todd (Helen), and Millie (Mike), 14 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by his first wife Dorothy May, and daughters Jacqueline, Deborah and Jerilyn.
The family invites the community to attend the viewing at Gridley-Block Funeral Chapel on Thursday December 19,2024 from 4-6 and a Celebration of Life on Friday, December 20, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at the Richvale Community Church.
