Obituary of Jim Bailey
Oliver James “Jim” Bailey August 12, 1943 – November 14, 2024
Oliver James Bailey, lovingly known as “Jim,” passed away peacefully at his home in Oroville, California, at the age of 81.
Jim is survived by his four children, nine grandchildren, three nephews and niece: Julie and Marc Solis of Orcutt, Joy and Cade Newman of Arroyo Grande, Jonathan and Esther Bailey of Oroville, and Joseph Bailey and Patrick Kutz of Portland. He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Oliver James Bailey II; his wife, Judith Bailey; his sister, Rita Cabano; and his parents, Oliver and Mary Bailey.
Jim was born on August 12, 1943, in Crescent City, California, to Oliver and Mary Bailey. He grew up in Los Altos, California, and graduated from Los Altos High School. In 1964, he married his childhood sweetheart, Judith “Judy” Bailey, and together they built a loving life in Menlo Park before eventually settling in Oroville.
Jim had a long and fulfilling career as a water supervisor for California Water Service, where his dedication and expertise made a lasting impact until his retirement.
A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Jim's life revolved around his family. He was known for his unwavering commitment to their well-being and success. Always present and available, Jim cherished deep conversations, provided mentorship, and found joy in supporting his loved ones' dreams. His grandchildren will fondly remember the countless hours spent with him riding on his gator and working on projects around his property, especially during birthdays and holidays.
Throughout his life, Jim was passionate about outdoor adventures, including cycling, camping along the Oregon and Washington coasts, and hiking with his beloved dog, Brandy. An accomplished marksman, he earned numerous awards in pistol competitions and later enjoyed investing in small fishing businesses.
Jim was deeply involved in his community, serving as a private school board member, a Kiwanis Club member, Lions Club member, Sunday school instructor, and a participant in Bible studies. He was also an active supporter of the adoptive parents’ community, reflecting his generous spirit and dedication to helping others.
A funeral service to celebrate Jim’s life will be held on November 29th, 2024 at 10:00 am at Ramsey Funeral Home in Oroville, Ca. Reception will follow.
