Obituary of Carl Ottis Johnson
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Carl Ottis Johnson. Carl went home to heaven peacefully on Sept 7, 2024, at the age of 84. Carl was born on February 16, 1940, in Johnson City Texas.
Carl was the middle child of seven children born to Nolan and Esther Johnson. He was born into a share croppers’ family in Texas and as a child he picked cotton. He also would hunt to help feed the family.
Carl in his spare time played the guitar and would sing in church. Carl never learned to read music but mastered the guitar playing and always amazed others who played, with his unique style.
At 17 Carl, enlisted in the army and volunteered for two tours in Vietnam and Germany where he met his true love Rosemarie in 1958. Together raising two children and retired from the Army in 1978. After retiring Carl and family moved to Gridley where he opened a small business selling Satellite Dishes.
He is survived by his devoted wife Rosemarie of 63 years, son Bruce (Chrissy), Tammy (Ken). Carl’s legacy also includes four grandchildren Chasity, Haiden, Ashly, and Abby. Carl also loved his six great-grandchildren Nova, Kaylen, Rayley, Sutton, Emmitt and Sonny.
He will live on forever in the hearts of those who knew him for his kind heart, quick wit, and loving charm. Carl through his spirit will guide us forever.
Arrangements entrusted to Gridley-Block Funeral Chapel.
A memorial service to honor Carl’s life will be held October 7th, 10 am at Gridley Biggs Cemetery gazebo.
