Obituary of Martin Jesse McGilvray
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Martin Jesse McGilvray, who left us peacefully on August 14, 2024, at the age of 70. Marty was born on August 28, 1953, in Santa Rosa, California, and spent his life surrounded by love and faith.
Marty is survived by his devoted wife of 48 years, Clara Jane McGilvray, whom he married on May 28, 1976. Together, they built a family filled with love and laughter, and they were blessed with five children: Jordan (Melissa) McGilvray, Mack (Mandi) McGilvray, Angie (Tim) Webb, Mary (Eddy) Roberts, and the late Henry Jedidiah McGilvray. Marty’s legacy also includes 18 cherished grandchildren, who brought him immense joy and pride. He is also survived by his brother Michael Durrant and many other family members who will miss him dearly. Marty was preceded in death by his son Henry Jedidiah McGilvray, his mother Hilda Ruth Nevers, his father Orval McGilvray, and his brother Russell McGilvray.
In his youth, Marty was known for his athletic prowess as a heavyweight wrestler and football player. His dedication to his faith was exemplified by his two-year mission to Denver, Colorado, for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His commitment to service continued throughout his life. For 27 years, Marty worked as a systems software specialist for the State of California, where he was respected and valued for his expertise and dedication.
Despite facing significant health challenges in recent years, Marty’s spirit remained unyielding, and he faced each day with courage and grace. Marty’s family remembers him as a loving father and husband who inspired those around him with his strength, kindness, and unwavering faith. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him.
A memorial service to honor Marty’s life and legacy will be held August 23rd, 10am at 400 Spruce St. Gridley CA. Rest in peace, dear Marty. Your love and spirit will live on in the hearts of your family and all who were blessed to know you. Arrangements entrusted to Gridley-Block Funeral Chapel.
