Ronald Smith

Obituary of Ronald Kendall Smith

Ron was born in Oroville, CA on September 4, 1937 to Kendall and Wenonah Smith.  He passed away on Sunday, June 9th at his home in Biggs with his loving companion of 36 years, Cathy, by his side.   Ron was raised in Live Oak, CA.  He attended local schools and graduated from Live Oak High School in 1955.  Ron then joined the U.S. Marine Corps upon his graduation, where he proudly served until June 1960.  After serving in the Marines, Ron came back home to Live Oak.   Ron worked for the next for 40 years for Fenn Ranch.  He retired in 2000 and settled in Biggs with Cathy.

Ron enjoyed dancing, golfing, kayaking, fishing, and riding his Harley.  He loved the beauty and amazement of nature.  If he wasn’t outside enjoying it himself then he was often inside watching golf, nature shows, car shows or reading about nature in Cathy’s encyclopedia set.   In recent years, Ron and Cathy spent many hours putting together puzzles, which they loved doing together.

Ron is survived by Cathy Mills (long-time companion), Karl Smith (brother), Darline Scroggins (sister), Dora Johnson (sister), Larry Smith (brother), numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and Cathy’s family: 3 children and their spouses, 8 grandchildren and their spouses and 6 great grandchildren.   Ron was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Keith, and his sister Diane.

No funeral arrangements are planned per his wishes.  Please take the time to enjoy the beauty of nature and think of Ron…  a sunrise, a sunset, sitting by the ocean watching the waves, watching trees blowing in a breeze, a river flowing, a fish jumping in the lake, the Sutter Buttes, to name a few.

Arrangements entrusted to Gridley-Block Funeral Chapel.
