Obituary of Dolly Tobey
Bertha Bell “Dolly” Tobey, 94, of Oroville, California, passed away Monday, May 20, 2024 from complications of pneumonia.
She was born October 3, 1929 in Johnson, Nebraska, the daughter of Leonard Augusta Pottorff and Etta "Dollie" Jean Porttoff.
She married Donald Rennick Whitlock of Iowa on June 19, 1948, and had three children, Sharon Raye, Mary Beth, and Teri Lynn. On June 10, 1966 she married Arlo Raymond Tobey in Los Angeles, California. Shortly thereafter, Dolly and Arlo moved to Oroville in 1967. She was known as a great cook, and ambassador and saleswoman for Avon cosmetics. Her hobbies included fine embroidery and hand-stitching quilts, which she either sold or gave as gifts. Christmas was her favorite holiday. She loved decorating her house and entertaining her many friends. Dolly was an avid Giants fan, and as part of her 90th birthday celebration, she went to a Giants game where the team honored her on the field.
Dolly is survived by her daughter, Mary Farley of Kansas, three granddaughters, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by Arlo Tobey, Sharon Raye Anderson, Teri Lynn, and siblings: Iva, Olan, Vera, Calvin, Dorothy, and Grace.
Graveside services, under the direction of Oroville Funeral Home, will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, June 14 at the Oroville Cemetery, 2600 Feather River Blvd in Oroville, California. A reception will follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to your favorite charity.
