Obituary of Steven Robert Shields

His Legacy… Steven Robert Shields was born on August 26, 1951 in Oroville, CA to Robert & Barbara Shields. Steve passed away on September 18, 2016. Steve was a lifelong resident of Oroville & attended Oroville Elementary Schools. After graduating from Oroville High School in 1969, Steve followed in his father’s footsteps & enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. Steve served as a jet engine mechanic on the U.S.S. Ranger. After receiving an honorable discharge on December 10, 1973, he attended Butte College & Chico State in pursuit of a degree in engineering. While at Chico State, he was a member of the Delta Psi Delta fraternity. Steve married Linda Blakley in 1979. In 1980, Steve & Linda welcomed their first daughter, Jennifer Lynn. In 1983, they welcomed their second daughter Rebecca Ann. Steve worked for RCBS for nearly 30 years as an engineer, designing reloading products. He held numerous patents for his designs. Steve was a mentor & coach to many children. Of his many accomplishments, nothing made Steve more proud than his grandchildren. He truly understood what mattered most in life. His Family… Steve is survived by his parents Robert & Barbara Shields of Oroville. His daughters and sons-in-laws Jennifer & David Martin and Becky & Johnnie Wilson, his grandchildren, PFC James Martin, USMC, Aijahnnah Martin, Darion Martin, Isabella Wilson, Kaitlyn Martin, and Karlie Martin all of Oroville, his brother Michael (Gail) Shields and sister Susan (Gary) Simmons of Oroville, plus many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends who will miss him dearly. Steve is preceded in death by his grandparents Harry & Nellie Shields & George & Frances Huston of Oroville. His Farewell Service… A Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, September 29, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Memorial Park Cemetery in Oroville.
