Obituary of Florence Martha McClain

Florence Martha "Mitsi" "Red" (Thompson) McClain went to live and rejoice with the Lord on September 13, 2016. She passed away after a five year battle with Parkinson's while being attended by familiar staff members at the Olive Ridge Hospital Post-Acute Nursing Home in Oroville California Florence was 82 years old. She was born to two loving parents, Angus and Muriel Margaret (Peterson) Thompson on December 3, 1933 in Chicago Illinois. She's the eldest to two siblings, Edward Angus and Bruce Wayne Thompson. She married William Junior McClain, who swept her off her feet at a church dance, on May 12, 1951, in Chicago Illinois. After his three-year overseas tour in the army, they took a new adventure of raising a family in Southern California. Six beautiful children were added to their joy including five sons and one daughter. She was blessed with 27 grandchildren and 39 great grandchildren Florence was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Bruce Wayne, her eldest son, Patrick Michael, and her granddaughter Kathryn Joy McClain. She is survived by her brother, Edward Angus Thompson of Glendale, CA and her children, Robert (Rebecca) McClain, Altus, OK; James McClain, Lake City, MN; Linda (Anthony) Chancellor, Oroville, CA; Daniel (Sonia) McClain, Paradise, CA; William McClain of Boyceville, WI.; Daughter-in-Law, Rose McClain, Yucca Valley; as well as, a favorite cousin, Betty Lee Stockman and friends. Her legacy is one of loving the Savior, working hard, and enduring faithfully to the end. She loved butterflies, roses, and angels. She especially treasured her Bible and the word of God. She enjoyed singing and tasting various cuisines. In addition, she loved to sing to various church hymns like, "Jesus loves the Little Children, The Old Rugged Cross, Amazing Grace, and Onward Christian Soldiers.
