Obituary of George William England, Jr.

George William England, Jr, of Gridley, CA passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, October 17, 2023.  He was born at home in Calvert, MD, on May 24, 1932 to the late George William England and Lillian Anna England.

He graduated from the University of Maryland with a BS Degree from the College of Agriculture, after which he served two years in the Air Force.  While stationed in the Philippines, he met and married his wife, Anna Kier.  After leaving the Air Force, he stayed in the Philippines and worked in sales, eventually moving to Guam and opening his own business.  He was instrumental in bringing school equipment and supplies to the Micronesian Islands, and filled a niche in wholesale distribution to the islands.

After retiring from his business, he moved to Gridley, CA, to be near his daughter, grand-daughter and great-grandchildren.  In Gridley, he finally had his farm, with walnut and citrus orchards.

George is survived by his 3 children, Elizabeth, Deborah Baker (husband James Baker), and Richard (wife Amy); five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; sisters Isabelle Marshall of Aberdeen, MD and Carol England (husband Chico Pertain) of Elkton, MD; and brother- and sister-in-law William and Lucy Kier of Manila, the Philippines.

In addition to his parents, George was pre-deceased by his brother, Robert Clifford England of Rising Sun, MD, and his wife, Anna Kier England.

A memorial service will be held at a future date.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to ADRA  www.adra.org.

Matthew 11:28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
