Obituary of Johnny Loyd McConnell

On September 30th, 2023, Johnny Loyd McConnell, 90, went to be with the Lord, joining his wife Shirley just 2 days after she passed away,  Johnny and Shirley were married for 70 years!

Johnny Lloyd McConnell was born in Arkansas to Lillie Jewel Whala and Walter Lee McConnell on June 5, 1933, but was raised by his grandmother Mary Luella until he was twelve then he went to live with his mother in California. Johnny and Shirley were married on May 25th, 1953 in Stanislaus, California. Johnny was a Veteran of the Korean War and served in the Army and was awarded The Purple Heart, a Service Medal with two bronze stars and the Combat Infantry Badge. After his Honorable discharge from the Army in 1954, Johnny spent the majority of his life as a truck driver and worked for Boyd Trucking until he went Independent with his own truck and partnered with Forward Air until his retirement.

A Viewing Service, for both Johnny and Shirley, will be held at Ramsey Funeral Home, 1175 Robinson Street, in Oroville, California on Thursday October 12th From 4-8pm.  Their Funeral Services will be held at 11am on Friday October 13, 2023 at Ramsey Funeral Home in Oroville. Pastor Doug Taylor from Calvary Baptist Church will be officiating the service. Immediately following the service, there will be a potluck at the home of Russ and Carol McConnell. They will both be laid to rest in Dixon, California at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery on the Veteran lawn.

Johnny and Shirley are preceded in death by their parents, 3 brothers, 6 sisters, their daughter Debora King and great grandson Bruno Hernandez.

Johnny and Shirley are survived by their children; Russ(Carol) McConnell, Denise Fairse, Diane( Rich) Sacchetti, and Rick(Terry) McConnell. They have 16 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren and 4 great great-grandchildren, and their sister Mary Bowden, and brother Stephen McConnell.
