Obituary of Philip Gordon Tanner

Phil Tanner also known as Pop's was born on August 14, 1938 in Covington, Kentucky. He was the first born son of three children to Albert and Shirley Tanner. He lived a full and colorful life of 78 years. At a young age he and his family moved to Compton, California, where he met the love of his life Ada Belle. They were married on August 24, 1962. They had one son Alan Tanner that he truly adored. Pop's was a big prankster, and loved playing games on family and friends and with family and friends. He especially enjoyed card games, he enjoyed many activities throughout his life, gardening, camping, skeet and trap shooting, bowling, darts, and electric guitar one of his songs he loved to sing was "Hang your head down Tom Dooley" he would pretend to cry while singing it. He would be so in character that he would actually squeeze out a few tears. He also was an avid fisherman, always carried a fishing pole in his truck. And always looking for a new fishing hole. Phil was also a big fan of sports especially Baseball and Football and if there was a game on he was in front of the television cheering on his favorite team, which depended on where he lived. Phil always greeted you with a smile and a story to tell or a joke to share. He loved talking to people and would have to tell one more story before you could leave. His memory lives on in everyone that knew him. We will remember his stories, his teasing, his laughter, and his smile. Phil is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Ada Tanner his son Alan and Cherie Tanner, Lorasue and Robert Morris, Devon Tanner, Derek and Ashley Tanner, Natasha Tanner, Vanessa Leonard, Robert Lonsberry, McKenzie Tanner, Elliot Tanner and Logan Pendergraft. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother. No public services will be held. Arrangements are entrusted to Ramsey Funeral Home 530-534-3877.
