Obituary of J LeeRoy Mastelotto
A Lasting Legacy, J LeeRoy Mastelotto 1938-2023
J LeeRoy was born in Portola, the youngest of 7 brothers and 3 sisters. He moved to Oroville when he was 5 years old and it was Adventures from that day to the last spent with Sonny Brandt. At Sweet 16 he fell head over boots for Diamond Lil. His sports records will never be matched- Oroville High School Hall of Fame, Yuba College Hall of Fame, and he even spent time on the Univ of Utah football field. Roy and Lillian traveled the state working with the Mastelotto Brothers Construction Co., settling back in Oroville in the mid-’70s. Roy and his brothers built Oro West Racket and Tennis Club where so many Oroville families were able to gather at tournaments and parties. Roy said he was always the first person invited on hunting and fishing trips because he was the best cook. If you ever tasted his bbq ribs & chicken, filets, bacon, or the famous Abilone goulash you’d agree! Roy's cooking skills grew into the “Best of the West” Peoples Choice awards at rib cook-offs. His famous J LeeRoy Dipping Sauce is still available today all over America. He is survived by his loving wife and partner Lillian, son Guy (Mary) daughter Amy and devoted grandchildren Mikey, Brooklyn (Jovi), Trever, and Roy. His wishes at this time were that storytelling and toasting of the countless incredible memories that were made with those he left behind.
“To J Lee Roy, the kindest, wisest, most generous, and last of his generation until we are together again we say ‘Salute’!”
