Obituary of Onzell Elizabeth Hughes

Onzell Elizabeth Hughes Her Legacy: Onzell was raised and born in Saginaw Alabama to Ida Alice Emery and Charlie Albert Emery on March 31, 1935. She was the youngest of 13 children. She met and married James Leon Hughes in November 1, 1953. Onzell was a homemaker and wife. They had 7 children and in 1983 after 30 years together she became a widow. She moved to Oroville in 1988 and lived with her son Steven Lee Hughes. Onzell loved to go to church and loved Jesus. She was a Pentecostal lady of the Church Of God, most of her life. Onzell was a great service to her kids and grandkids, always putting others needs above her own. She loved to sing old country gospel songs with her Karaoke machine especially I'll Fly Away and The Old Rugged Cross as her favorites. She loved to listen to George Jones and Loretta Lynn and dance to their songs. Watching Roy Roger's movies also gave her great joy. Onzell was a happy go lucky lady. She was always on the move going somewhere in her car. She never stayed home and loved to go, go, and go up until the day she passed away. After a short illness she passed away in a Carmichael Hospital. On July16, 2016 at the age of 81 she began her journey to heaven. Her Family: Onzell had four daughters: Linda Gillard, Sherry Roberts, Elizabeth Denham all of Oroville and Annette Cox of Iowa. She also had three sons: Wayne Hughes of Alabama, Steven Hughes of Oroville and Leon Hughes who passed away at the age of 21 years old. She was a wonderful grandmother to 14 grandkids and 43 great-grandkids, a sister to 12 brothers & sisters and a loving aunt to many nieces and nephews. Onzell was loved and her family will dearly miss her. Her Farewell Service: A Farewell Funeral Service to honor and celebrate Onzell's life will be held on Friday, July 22, 2016 at Oroville Funeral Home, 1454 Montgomery Street, Oroville, CA. She will be laid to rest at Memorial Park Cemetery in Oroville following her Farewell Funeral Service. Arrangements are entrusted to Oroville Funeral Home (530) 533-0323.
