Obituary of John Henry Upton
John Henry (Burks) Upton was born on February 5, 1929, in Vian, Oklahoma to John M. Upton & Dollie M. Upton. He was the 2nd of 10 kids. He had 4 brothers and 5 sisters. Brother Cecil (Pete) Upton is the only surviving sibling. He passed away August 5, 2022, in Williams, California.
John married Joyce L. Garrett on February 23, 1954. They were married 68 wonderful years. They had 5 kids, 3 boys, 2 girls, preceded in death by youngest son. They have 8 grandsons, 22 great-grandkids, 2 great-great-grandkids & another on the way.
John loved taking camping trips with the family, fishing & hunting, & taking vacation trips back to Arkansas. We spent every weekend having BBQs at Granny & Grandpa’s. He worked at John Deere tractor in Colusa for 20 years, then on his own for a few more. He loved playing the harmonica. He used to teach the grandkids how to blow like a train whistle. On one of our vacations, we went through the campground, Dad was blowing his train whistle. Everyone in the campground thought there was a train coming through.
He is loved and cherished by many. He is gone but will never be forgotten.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, August 12, 2022, at noon at Gridley Biggs Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Gridley-Block Funeral Chapel.
