Obituary of Donna Mae Whetstone

Donna Mae Rose Whetstone passed away February 18th at the age of 89, 10 days before her 90th birthday. She was born to Julia Rebecca Acey White Rose and William Manuel Rose on February 29, 1932 in Gridley California as Butte County’s first ever leap year baby on record. Donna was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. While raising three children she worked for 35 years as a head cook at Manzanita, Biggs and Richvale Schools, and at Tri Valley Growers cannery as floor supervisor. Donna was preceded by her loving husband of 51 years, Orvil Whetstone, her children Walter “Wally” Whetstone, Orinda “Rinny” Whetstone Brown, she is survived by her daughter Rebecca “Becky” Whetstone, (Steve Reeves), 7 grandchildren: Wally Whetstone, Amber Allison, Crystal Whetstone, Ross Whetstone, Zora Keel, Julia Brown and Mary Brown, 8 great grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. The burial will be held at the Gridley cemetery on March 7 at 10 AM, followed by a celebration of life. Arrangements entrusted to Gridley-Block Funeral Chapel.
