Obituary of Richard Johnson Tippets

Born July 11, 1939, in Yuba City, Sutter Co, California to parents: McClaine Lyman Tippets and Kathleen Yvonne Johnson. Died January 1, 2022. He was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He loved the Boy Scouts of America Scouting program and served many years with youth and youth activities. He was a teacher and Bishop of the Gridley 1st Ward. He wore cowboy boots most every day of his life and loved horses, the outdoors hunting, stream fishing, camping and being in the mountains. He worked in soil science and as a chemist for many years and then helped develop Children’s Hope Foster Family Agency in 2000. Dick was known for his beautiful tenor voice. He sang at many events, performed in musicals and venues. His sister reports a crowd favorite was his rendition of “Danny Boy”. He is survived by: Daughter Heather Iwalani Payne (Ben), Kevin Kanoa Tippets (Wendee), Sean McClaine Tippets, Michael Tippets and Terri Andersen. Sister Nancy Bae Richins Brother Walden A. Barney Jr. “Sonny” Brother Dennis J. Barney 10 Grandchildren and 13 Great-Grandchildren. Viewing and Services will be Monday 1/10/22 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Loma Rica, CA. 11646 Hill Road. Viewing: 9:30-10:30 a.m. Services: 11:00 - 12:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers a donation to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Missionary program. Arrangements entrusted to Gridley-Block Funeral Chapel.
