Obituary of Edward Stephen Melton

A Celebration of Life was held on Tuesday, December 14, 2021, at 1:00 pm, at Christian Life Assembly of God Church, 1526 Humble Avenue in Gridley, for Edward Stephen Melton, Sr., 81, of Gridley. Edward went to be with our Lord and Savior on Monday, December 6, 2021. Edward was born on October 18, 1940, in Oroville, California. He resided in Gridley his entire life, working for the City of Gridley’s Public Works Department, where he eventually became the Director. Edward built a career in this department for over 40 years, eventually becoming the Director of Public Works for the City and remaining in this role until his retirement in December 2003. Throughout his career, Edward made numerous friends and was well known in the community. After retiring, Edward enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening as well as spending time with his family. Edward was preceded in death by his parents, L.G. “Red” Melton in 1989 and Naomi Simmons Melton in 2010; and his son-in-law, Randall Bissell in 2014. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Shirley Melton, of Gridley; his brothers Gale Melton (Shirley) of Terrebonne, OR and David Melton (Beverly) of Gridley; his daughters, Dianne Keesee of Kirkland, WA; Marsha Eslami (Hakim) of Clovis, CA; Linda Bissell of Marysville, CA; his sons Edward Melton Jr. (Debbie) of Biggs, CA; Christopher Melton (Angie) of Spanish Springs, NV; and Levi Melton (Marissa) of Gridley. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation and viewing was held at Gridley-Block Funeral Chapel on Monday, December 13 from 5:00-8:00 pm. Private interment took place immediately following the Celebration of Life on December 14 with a reception also following the service at Christian Life Assembly’s fellowship hall. Arrangements were entrusted to Gridley-Block Funeral Chapel. Contributions to Christian Life Assembly of God Church are suggested by the family.
