Obituary of Jay Colby Adams
Jay Colby Adams, 88, of Gridley, California, passed away on November 17, 2021 at Enloe Hospital in Chico, California.
His funeral service will be held at the Gridley Stake Center on 400 Spruce Street on November 30 at 10:00 AM with Bishop Nako of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints officiating. Burial will follow at Gridley-Biggs Cemetery Hwy 99. Gridley-Block Funeral Chapel will be handling the funeral arrangements.
Jay was born in Gridley to John Q. and Melva L. (Richins) Adams on February 16, 1933. He graduated from Gridley Unified High School 1950. He served for four years in the US Navy during the Korean war receiving the National Defense Korean Presidential Unit Citation for his service. Upon separation from the Navy, he earned a degree in Diesel Technology at Oregon Tech. He worked as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic throughout California and Nevada. He started with CalTrans in 1967, promoted to Highway Equipment Superintendent III, and retired in 1992 with 25 years of State service.
Jay continued to provide his expert ability to fabricate and repair just about anything people would bring to his shop. He enjoyed fixing things that nobody else could. He never really retired. He served his community on the Gridley City Planning Commission. He also held many callings in the church and, most of all, he enjoyed being a temple worker at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints - Sacramento Temple.
Jay is survived by his wife Kathleen Sue Adams of Gridley; his sister Jane Levin; his children John & Mona Adams, Julie & Scott Jewell, Jeffrey & Candy Adams; his grandchildren Jennifer & Patrick Bowen, Jessika & Tim O’Hara, Joshwa & Erin Adams, Joell & David Wallaker, Dewayne Micheal Adams, Earline Adams; great-grandchildren Patrick Bowen Jr, Baylee Adams, Payton Bowen, Connor O’Hara, Jordyn Adams, Pence Bowen, Cennedeigh O’Hara, Colby Jane Adams. He was preceded in death by his sisters Laura Jean Butcher and Janeen Kay Scott.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Enloe Hospital, VFW Post #5731 and all of the Gridley Community for their thoughts and prayers for Jay and his family.
