Obituary of Daniel George Nelson

Surrounded by his loving family Dan passed away on April 14, 2016 at Mercy General Hospital in Sacramento, California. Dan was born October 24, 1945 in Santa Monica, California to Clair and Ruth (Gibson) Nelson. He was the third of seven children. Dan was an outstanding athlete. He played quarterback and was the pitcher for the Oroville Tigers, graduating with the class of 1963. At his twenty year class reunion. he met and later married Jackie (Miller) Nelson. Together they have enjoyed over thirty wonderful years of a life filled with laughter and love with family and friends. Dan loved to travel, wine, dine, visit with friends and was an avid golfer. His first and foremost love, however, was his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, and sadly leaves us behind to cherish his wonderful memory, his unbelievable sense of humor, his compassionate heart, his giving nature and his empty seat at toddy time. "Clinkus" buddy. He is survived by his loving wife Jackie (Miller) Nelson, two brothers, Clair (Helen Marie) and Stuart (Linda) Nelson, and two sisters, Sondra Nelson and Priscilla (Frank) Mitchell. He is also survived by his sons, Brad (Terresa) Basham, Tyler (Megan) Hawkins, and daughters Wendy (Chuck) Embs and Rebecca (Mike) Fleming and five grandchildren, Andrew, Jacob, Hannah, Lexi and Tommy. He is preceded in death by his two brothers, Greg and Neil Nelson. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at 10:00 AM at Divine Savior Catholic Church, 9079 Greenback Lane Orangevale, CA 95662. A reception is immediately following at Sun City Lincoln Hills Orchard Creek Lodge, 965 Orchard Creek Lane, Lincoln, CA 95648.
