Virgil was an avid rock hound and spent many weekends with his children in the mountains looking for rocks and crystal. Later in life he took up the art of making Native American Jewelry that is worn by many today. He also had a talent for music, he could play any instrument he picked up by ear. He and a group of friends play music in “honky tonks” and for special events. Many a night were spent outside in the yard playing music and singing Hank Williams songs until early in the morning. Virgil loved his family and always had a camera in hand to capture moments and memories he shared with them. He was the leader of the family and honored them with their Native names. Virgil committed his life to preserving the Maidu language and the culture of his people. He taught the language at the Mooretown and Berry Creek Rancherias.
