Phillip was my best and perhaps only true friend when my mother died just after my 4th birthday. Aside from a rare, early childhood spat, we were constant companions after school and on weekends. He entertained me with his stories and, when I didn't have a bicycle, he took me on the back of his to explore areas nearby. We often went down to the old Diamond Match factory to wander around and one day he helped me adopt a stray cat. My dad remarried when we were both 14, so I saw little of him after that. But I remember he looked out for me, his little friend. I loved him almost as a sister and surely as a loyal friend. Life is always a struggle, but still my heart breaks. Condolences to the family.
