Hearing of Rich’s passing filled me with sadness...I knew Rich from his time in Vacaville. My job was writing “clearances” for PG&E contractors, and his job was to process them. His knowledge of the PG & E’s transmission system was astonishing and invaluable. He and I worked our tails off, and spectacularly failed, specifically, to try to obtain clearances for the same “Caribou-Palermo” lines for repairs that ultimately caused the disastrous Camp Fire. We worked hand in hand for approximately three years, usually much more successfully. He had a rough exterior, but in actuality, he was a pussycat. I was very very fond of him and I am so so sorry he didn’t enjoy a longer retirement. Rest In Peace, brother. Bruce Riley (brriley@pacbell.net)

Rich Jaster and I rode to work together while he still lived in the Oroville area, staying local during his shift then commuting home on days off. He was always upbeat and on time for work ready for whatever came his way. He talked about his family with unwavering love and respect looking forward to making his way closer to home working with PG&E.
We talked about oval dirt track racing which he enjoyed attending and knew of my Uncle Larry Damitz who raced at the Oroville racetrack occasionally. He also talked about the Christmas decorations competition in Oroville every year he competed in and had been winning with pride and enthusiasm.
When Rich left the Geysers on the way to get closer to home, he was deeply missed by anyone who had worked with him. I was sad to see him go but understood his reasons and wished him well. I believe he went to the System Dispatcher’s Office but unsure where he was of late. I always wondered if he had made it closer to home. My condolences to his family and friends and want them to know that his coworkers appreciated and enjoyed Rich – he made a difference in our lives and we are better for having known him.
Rich – gone too soon, Rest in Peace and know you are missed!! Sandi Damitz, Power Plant Operator, Geysers Power Plant (sandijd54@gmail.com)

Rich was a great guy and part of the Geysers family! Although he had a gruff exterior and like to poke fun, he had a heart of gold and would help anyone and everyone he could......especially if he thought they were being treated unfairly. Last I talked with him, he was excited about retiring. Breaks my heart that he didn't get to enjoy as much time as he should of. Just know there are many of us that like and respected Rich greatly and we are so very sorry to hear of this loss.
