Obituary of Helga Gertrude Rutherford

Helga Gertrude Rutherford was born April 20, 1929 in Dresden, Germany. She was raised by her parents with 7 siblings. She died Sunday, November 8, 2020. Helga loved to sing and dance. She began her career singing in church and eventually performed in the theater in Germany. While performing in the Mozart Choir at an American Armed Forces Network Radio Station she met Rudy Rutherford whom she later married. Rudy smuggled Helga out of East Germany in the trunk of his car. Rudy predeceased Helga. Helga was happiest when she was surrounded by her family. Helga was well known in Oroville, mostly from her time working at The Depot. She was beloved by many and remembered for her smile and joy of life. Helga is survived by her son and daughter Tom Rutherford and Terry Jennings, grandsons, Daniel and Travis Rutherford, great grandchildren, Mackenzie and Riley Rutherford, daughter-in-law Jozette, grand daughter-in-law Tomoko, and nieces and nephews who reside in Germany. Helga enjoyed her friends, and especially her dear friend of many years, Elaine Hansen. Per Helga's request no services were held. Arrangements are entrusted to Ramsey Funeral Home 530-534-3877.
