Obituary of Bruce Douglas Bowling

A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday February 11, 2016, 1:00 PM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 400 Spruce St., Gridley CA, for Bruce D. Bowling, DDS, 67 of Gridley. He passed away on Thursday, February 4, 2016 in Chico, CA. Bruce was born on August 18, 1948 in San Jose CA, one of three children born to Richard and Drucilla Bowling. Bruce was a long time resident of Gridley, having owned and operated Bowling Family Dentistry in Gridley for 40 years. He had a life long passion of fishing. he was a dedicated Scouter, and served as the President of BSA, Butte Area Council, and Vice President of the Golden Empire Council. He also served as a Wood Badge Course Director, and was awarded the Silver Beaver award, BSA highest award. Bruce was a life long devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, having served in many callings including a full time mission as a young man to New Zealand, a second mission with his wife Alicia in Arkansas. he also served as Bishop of the Gridley Third Ward, and as a member of the Gridley California Stake Presidency. Bruce was porceded in death by his parents, Richard and Drucilla Bowling, and one granddaughter Eliza Bowling. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Alicia Bowling of Gridley, CA, four sons, Douglas (Charmayne) Bowling Salem OR, Richard (Lisa) Bowling of Rancho Cordova, CA, David (Jessica) Bowling, Robert (EmmaLee) Bowling, all of Gridley CA, two daughters, Sherrie (Steve) Jensen of Woodland, CA, Anne (Craig) McDowell, of Erie, CO, one brother Gordon Bowling of Afton, WY, one sister Sharon Bowling of Peyton, CO and fifteen grandchildren. A Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 10, 2016 from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Gridley-Block Funeral Chapel. President Ye Pao Chue of the Table Mtn, Second Hmong Branch will officiate the service. Intermit will be in the Gridley Biggs Cemetery. Arrangments are under the direction of the Gridley-Block Funeral Chapel. Contributions to the LDS Missionary Fund are suggested by the family.
