Obituary of William Edgar Lauer

William “Bill” Edgar Lauer went to heaven on Easter Sunday, April 12th, 2020 at the age of 86. He broke the mold when he was born on December 8th, 1933 in Delleker, CA (Plumas County) to Joseph & Elizabeth Lauer. In 1951, he graduated two weeks early from Portola High School where he lettered in all four sports. He turned down a football scholarship to attend Chico State because he wanted to pursue barbering. After graduation, he immediately went to work at the Graeagle box factory until he had saved enough money to attend Moler Barber College in Sacramento. In 1953, he wed his first wife, Arlene Perkins, whom he had three sons with. The same year he received his California Barber License. He worked in various barbershops in Portola, Orland, Chico and Oroville, including Fisher’s Barbershop in downtown Oroville, for 10 years. In 1964, he opened his own barbershop in Prospector’s Village in Oroville. During their 17 years of marriage, Bill and Arlene enjoyed watching their boys play sports from little league to high school before she tragically passed. Years later, Bill went on to marry the love of his life, Pauline Middleton-White. Bill took pride in living life his way, working his chosen profession of barbering, and being a Grandpa. He retired in 2013 at the age of 80 after 60 years of working. His favorite place to spend his time was with Pauline at their beloved cabin by the lake in Little Grass Valley, which they built together in 1994. His other hobbies included cutting wood, hunting and fishing at Stagg Point with his best friend Dick Gregg and Little Grass Valley, listening to country music, and telling stories of the good old days. He was also a member of Native Sons, Masonic Oroville Lodge No. 103, F & AM and served in the Army National Guard for 6 years. He will always be remembered for being a maverick, a storyteller, someone who knew the value of family and hard work, and for his terrific sense of humor. He will be deeply missed. He is preceded in death by his parents and first wife Arlene. He is survived by his second wife of 47 years Pauline, children William J. Lauer, Michael (Jamie) Lauer, and James (DeDe) Lauer, stepchildren Michael (Angie) White and Kelly (Henry) Reeson, sister Mary Ann (Dennis) Dyer , Grandchildren Joey, Julie, Ryan, Kaley, Lindsay, Logan, Katie, Jamison, Alexis, Mateo and 6 Great Grandsons. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 19, 2021 at 1:00 PM at Ramsey Funeral Home, 1175 Robinson Street, Oroville, California. Arrangements are entrusted to Ramsey Funeral Home 530-534-3877.
