Obituary of Gilbert Douglas Thatcher

His Legacy...Gilbert Douglas Thatcher "Pop and Poppy", 76 years of age, peacefully went to be with the Lord on April 11, 2020. He was born December 6, 1943 in Mayaquez, Puerto Rico to George Thatcher Sr. and Josafina Sola Thatcher. At the age of five Gilbert moved from Puerto Rico to New York City with his family and then to Oroville, California where his grandmother resided. Gilbert attended Oroville High School. As a young teen Gil had various jobs he enjoyed and later went into construction. Gil began working for PG&E (GC Division) for 36 years before retiring. He served in the Army National Guards. Gil was an active member of his church, Christian Faith Center Palermo, for many years and enjoyed supporting church and community outreaches, missions, camps etc. He was well known for and found great pleasure in barbequing delicious tr-tip for his family, friends and special events. He loved golfing, hunting and was a committed Steelers fan. His Family... Gil is survived by his loving wife Sandra, his daughters, Meritt (Kevin) Odekirk and Alison (Jason) McClure, his brother George (Violet) Thatcher, his grandchildren: Shane (Heather) Odekirk, Lacey (Josiah) Sullivan, Tammy Boyar (TBD), Sarah (Andrew) Ellis, Reed (Samantha) McClure, Neal McClure and Emma McClure, his great grandchildren: Savannah (Jonathan) Hansen, Peyton Sherwood, Gage Odekirk, Brett, Marshall, Maisie, and Blake Ross and Hazel Ellis. His brother-in-law, Kenny (Carolyn "Punky") Porteous, his sister-in-law, Sharon (Ronnie) Heckenliable and several nieces and nephews. Gil is preceded in death by his son, Douglas Thatcher, his parents George and Josafina Thatcher and his grandson-in-law, Lukas Ross. His Farewell Service... A Celebration of Life that was planned in August has been postponed. We will update this information here once it has been rescheduled. Arrangements are entrusted to Ramsey Funeral Home 530-534-3877.
