Obituary of Harold Vernon Johns

His Legacy:  Harold Vernon Johns was born on September 6, 1918 in Petaluma, California to Arthur Wesley Johns and Millen Ellen Ann Winsor.   He passed away on October 25, 2019.  Harold earned a degree in Geology at U.C. Berkeley. He was employed as a designer in Aerospace Industry, where he worked on designs for the B-25, B-40, and B-70 Bombers, and the P-51 Fighter.  He became a Lead Structural Engineer for the forward part of the Apollo Command Module.  He was a Lead Engineer in the Apollo 11 Mission that landed on the moon.   

 

His Family:  Harold is survived by his wife of 22 years Harriet Adelia Johnson Johns.  His sons Vernon (Mary Ann) Johns, Gordon (Cora) Johns, two step daughters Karen Johnsen and Linda Ramage and many grand and great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Stuart and Windsor Johns.

 

His Farewell Service & Burial:  There was a Celebration of Life Service held in Harold’s honor on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2019 at 11 AM at Calvary Baptist Church, 2377 Foothill Blvd, Oroville, CA, 95966.  In lieu of flowers donations in Harold’s name can be made to Calvary Baptist Church, Hospice or charity of your choice.  Arrangements are entrusted to Ramsey Funeral Home (530) 534-3877.  

 

Burial:  Harold Johns was buried at Sunset View Cemetery in El Cerrito on Nov. 18, 2019 near where his parents Arthur and Millen Johns are buried.
