Obituary of Heloise Sylvan Martin
Her Legacy…Heloise Sylvan Martin, 93, passed away February 26, 2019 in Oroville, CA. She was born December 12, 1925 in Haslam, Texas, the fifth of nine girls born to Julius and Lois (Maddox) Grisham. Her loving sisters were a central part of her life forever. She spent her childhood in Diboll, TX where her father worked at a local lumber mill. After graduating from high school in Diboll in 1943, she attended business college there. She soon met and married Glenn Eugene Martin of nearby Lufkin, TX on February 5, 1944. Glenn was soon drafted into the Army Air Corps to serve in WWII. They were stationed in a variety of places and had one son, Glenn Jr., a year later in February 1945, still during the war. After Glenn was out of the service at the end of WWII, she worked as a bookkeeper at a Lufkin construction company to put Glenn through college while having one more son, John in 1947. After Glenn’s graduation they moved to California to work for the USFS, where Don was born in 1953. Afterwards they returned to Texas and lived in Lufkin, TX where son Carl was born in 1959. In 1962 the family left Texas and returned to California. In 1979 they moved to Oroville and shortly thereafter Glenn retired from the USFS. During the next years they travelled the country in a motorhome spending much time with her sisters and their families, and had many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Her Family…She is survived by four sons, Glenn (Janelle) Martin Jr. of Reno, NV, John (Barbara) Martin of Oroville, CA, Don (Lani) Martin of Fall River Mills, CA, and Carl (Angela Del Grande) Martin of Fall River Mills, CA. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren, Suzanne Martin of Hawthorne, NV, Maresa (Justin) Valvo of Reno, NV, Daniel Martin of Reno, NV, John (Danielle) Martin Jr of Oroville, Kimberly Davis of Oroville, Thomas (Desiree) Martin of Oroville, Natalie (Jeremy) Kammerer of Fall River Mills, Ca, and Haley (Ben) Sherman of Medford, OR and 10 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Glenn Eugene Martin in 2015, and sisters Arline, Juanita, Judy, Jaqueline, Evelyn, Marceal, Marjorie and Jeraldine.
Her Farewell Service… Funeral Service will be held on Friday, March 8, 2019 at 11:30 AM at Ramsey Funeral Home, 1175 Robinson Street, Oroville, California. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, 5646 Lincoln Blvd. Oroville, California. Arrangements are entrusted to Ramsey Funeral Home 530-534-3877.
