Obituary of Cory La-Shan Johnson
Cory La’Shan Johnson born to Beatrice Johnson and Walter Johnson on May 24, 1971.
Cory was born in Oakland, CA, later residing in Yuba City, then Oroville and finally Sacramento, CA. Cory was an only child of Beatrice Johnson, growing up with many cousins, family and friends.
Cory received his education in the public-school system of Oroville, CA. He graduated from Las Plumas High School class of 1989. He was active in sports. He later organized and started a local Pee Wee football team The Oroville Eagles.
Cory was always a hardworking, independent man. He excelled in construction and solar panel installation. He was a Community Activist for the “Village Advocates of Sacramento”. He also enjoyed serving the homeless with “Give Back Sac”.
Cory met the “Love of his life” Christie Clay in 2009. They were joined in Holy Matrimony in 2012. They have a lovely blended family of seven children and two grandsons.
Cory was a Christian and loved God. He was a devoted husband, son, father, brother, nephew, cousin and friend. To know Cory was to love him. His personality was larger than life. He had a big heart and an infectious smile. He always saw the best in people. He loved to tell jokes and make people laugh. As “Momma’s” would say, “He’s a bad boy”. Cory was known for always being well groomed and well dressed. He wouldn’t leave the house without ironing his clothes. Cooking was one of his favorite hobbies. He got much pleasure from having someone taste and enjoy his food! Cory has always been a lover of animals. He had two well trained Pitt Bulls, “Smokey” and “Fat Daddy”. He also had a Bearded Dragon, “Chloe”. His favorite sport was football. He was a “Die Hard” 49er fan. His favorite sports figure was LeBron James.
Cory departed this life on February 13, 2019. He leaves fond and loving memories to be cherished by his wife, Christie Johnson; mother, Beatrice Johnson; father, Walter Johnson; grandmother-mother-in-law Rubye Clay; mother-in-law Delores Johnson; father-in-law Attorney Chris Clay; seven children including four sons Keith Johnson, Kimani Smith, Jaylen Bautista, Anesh Johnson; three daughters Maelahni Johnson, Aiyana Lee, Jasmynne Turner and two grandsons Ayce and Aylen Johnson. Aunts, Leslie Hendrix, Judy Johnson, Willa Anderson and Kathy Johnson, an Uncle Marty Johnson (Delores); Sister-in-law, Attorney Delilah Clay, brother-in-law, Isiah Clay (Nicole). He also, leaves (paternal) brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles and several cousins.
Cory had two best friends Vaughn Campbell, “V”, and Kevin Merinda, “M”.
Cory was preceded in death by his great grandfather Jake Johnson, grandparents Iva and Thomas Johnson, cousins Kevin Kimble, Jake Johnson and VaShawn Atkinson.
His Viewing will be held Thursday, February 28, 2019 from 5-8 pm at Ramsey Funeral Home. His Memorial Service will be held Friday, March 1st, 2019 at 10 am at the SouthSide Community Center (2959 Lower Wyandotte Ave. Oroville, CA 95966).
